Charles and Pat Derry Video Scholarship

Since 2006, a $500 scholarship has been available each school year to a deserving Madonna Broadcast and Cinema Arts student who is entering either their sophomore, junior, or senior year. It’s been very helpful to students who have proven they are invested in the degree, continuing their education after the main influx of scholarship monies from freshman admissions runs out.

Charles Derry retired as head of the department after nearly four decades of serving the students with grace, professionalism, and the passion to produce only the best trained people. He was a professor while also working full time at Detroit’s WXYZ-TV Channel 7. The broadcast studio at Madonna is named after him. Charles’ wife, Pat, was head of Technology Learning Services at Madonna as well.

Thanks to the support of the Derry Video Scholarship, Madonna University sends career-ready, professional talent directly to where ethics-based voices are needed inside national film-making studios, TV media, and Fortune 500 companies.
